Innocent man killed in crash with stolen car

A 58-year-old Detroit man was killed in a fatal car accident when a stolen jeep cashed into the car he was driving. The deceased man was a father of three, grandfather, and had been married to his wife for more than 30 years. His family lived just few blocks from the site of the crash. He was described as an easy going and really good man.

Two sixteen-year-olds are accused of stealing a jeep and leading police on chase. The police apparently chased the pair driving the jeep for some time, but then at some point had called off the chase. There were still some questions as to whether the chase was actually terminated prior to the crash, but law enforcement official maintain that it was indeed ended before the crash. Regardless of whether the police were still in pursuit, the juveniles were still apparently driving recklessly as they entered an intersection and stuck the 58-year-old man's car in the side.

There are times when it may be harder to identify negligent or reckless driving. It is difficult to determine whether a driver may have taken their eyes off the road for moment before a crash, particularly if there are other factors such as slippery roads or unsafe highways. In other cases it is more cleanly cut. In some cases a driver's cellular phone records may indicate that they were likely using their phone at the time of the crash. Even more than cellular phone records, speeding and weaving to try to outrun the police is clearly reckless and puts others lives in danger, as was tragically illustrated in this case.
