Michigan woman charged in fatal crash

A Michigan woman has been charged with second-degree murder in a fiery accident that took the life of a 42-year-old man. She faces alternative charges including operating while intoxicated causing death, reckless driving causing death, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing property damage.

According to local news reports the man stopped at a red light and was waiting at the intersection for the light to turn green. The woman, who is reported to have been also speeding at the time, slammed into the back of the man's car. The force of the impact pushed the cars through the intersection. They man's car was pushed into another car that was stopped for the red light on the other side of the road.

The crash ignited a fire in the vehicle and the coroner has described the cause of the man's death as thermal injuries and blunt force trauma. The woman was also seriously injured in the collision.

According to police evidence of THC, a component of marijuana, was found in the woman's system at the time of the crash. The law enforcement officials also say that the woman struck another vehicle the same night prior to crashing into the man's car.

While the woman awaits trial she is on house arrest. She has to submit to random drug testing and is only allowed to leave her home for court appearances and medical appointments. She is of course also not allowed to drive or contact the victim's family.
