Teen passenger killed in crash of stolen car

A sixteen year old Michigan teen lost is life in fatal car accident at the end of last week. The teenager was a passenger in a car that is reported to have been stolen earlier. Two other juveniles in the car were also injured in the accident.

According to local news reports the car was reported stolen in Dearborn Heights. The tragic accident happened at a Detroit intersection when the vehicle went out of control and plowed into the side of a building. While law enforcement officials are likely still conducting the investigation they have not yet reported what criminal charges, if any, will be leveled against the two surviving teens.

The principal at the high school the 16-year-old attended told local reporters that the teen was a great kid and was able to make friends quickly.

Rumors had begun to circulate about the accident among the students throughout the school day. School officials did not learn about the accident until late in the day on Friday. This Monday grief counselors were on hand at the school to help other students.

Unfortunately at a certain point we cannot always control our children's decisions about whose car they might ride in. Teenagers can sometimes make errors in judgment about with whom they associate and risks they take. Most often those mistakes are things from which they can learn. In some tragic circumstances like this one some teens make decisions which put their lives in the hands of those put them in mortal danger.
