Detroit police officer rescued after fiery crash

A car accident between a Detroit police car and another vehicle left the officer incapacitated in his car as it became engulfed in flames. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing but apparently the officer lost control of his car and collided with another vehicle.

When a truck driver approached the crash scene he noticed the wreckage and stopped his truck. Another man had already stopped and the two men were able to free the officer from his burning squad car.

According to the truck driver when he got out of his truck and ran up to the police car smoke was already rising out of the car. The two men were able to open the driver side door and the police officer motioned that he needed help. They pulled him from the car and helped him to the curb.

The driver of the car that was struck by the police car said that he said he saw what started as a small fire grow to envelope the car.

The officer was briefly hospitalized to treat his injuries but has told local news sources that he has been released and is feeling better though is still a bit sore.

The officer explained that he does not recall much from the crash. It appears that he struck a truck and then caromed into a wall near the roadway.

This is officer is fortunate that there were good Samaritans on the scene to help him exit the vehicle. Even though his injuries from the collision were not that serious he would have likely sustained severe burn injuries or perhaps lost his life if he would have not been able to escape his burning cruiser in time.
