Michigan woman killed in three-car accident

One Michigan woman was killed and another driver was seriously injured in a three-vehicle fatal accident on Friday afternoon. The accident occurred just after noon. The injured driver reportedly suffered serious, but not life threatening injuries. The third driver involved in the crash was not injured.

According to local news reports, a 34-year-old woman was driving a Chevrolet Blazer west on M-35 when she crossed the centerline into the oncoming lane of traffic. The woman's SUV struck an eastbound pickup truck driven by a 59-year-old Michigan man. After the initial collision a third car, a Mitsubishi driven by a 33-year-old woman struck the rear of the pickup truck.

Police have not yet released the names of the drivers pending notification of the families. The driver of the pickup truck was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and then transferred to a larger regional medical center.

Michigan state police assisted local law enforcement and rescue personal responding to the scene of the crash. Traffic on M-35 was stopped and rerouted for approximately two and a half hours while medical and cleanup crews responded to the crash.

The investigation into the accident remains ongoing. Michigan state police are utilizing and accident reconstruction team to attempt to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the crash.

Even in cases where the cause of the crash seems apparent at first, it is important to gather any possible evidence as quickly as possible. The memories of witnesses may fade or become less reliable. In a short time any marks left on the road may become obscured making it more difficult for to determine the cause of the accident.
