Newspaper delivery truck struck in Michigan crash

Generally newspapers only deliver the news, but occasionally the delivery of the newspapers becomes the headline. A two-car accident in Detroit early Wednesday morning sent a Newspaper delivery truck crashing into a storefront. Both drivers were injured in the accident.

At 5:30 on Wednesday morning, a truck that delivers newspapers for the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News was struck by a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Calvary and West Vernon. According to local law enforcement officials, the driver of the Jeep had stolen the vehicle prior to the car accident.

The force of the impact sent the newspaper delivery truck into a storefront. The driver of the newspaper truck was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. That driver was treated and released from Detroit Receiving Hospital.

The driver of the allegedly stolen Jeep was in serious condition at another local hospital. That driver was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

There are many potential reasons that a driver may be distracted or drive recklessly. A driver may look down at his phone or be otherwise preoccupied. One can only imagine that driving a stolen vehicle would cause a driver to neglect paying careful attention to traffic conditions.

In some situations the owner of a car may be partly responsible for injuries caused when they allow another person to drive their car when they knew, or should have known, that the driver was likely cause an accident. While this case remains under investigation it appears that the owner of the Jeep did not consent to the driver's use of the vehicle and could not have foreseen the accident.
