Police say racing lead to serious accident in Saginaw

On Tuesday evening in Saginaw at about 7:30, a 24-year-old man was driving down a neighborhood street. Like any occupants on a seemingly normal car ride, they could not have guessed that they would soon be in a serious car accident.

At the same time the car was driving down the street, two other vehicles were allegedly racing each other and heading in their direction. One of the racing cars, a Cadillac Escalade driven by a 16-year-old, went through a stop sign and crashed into their car. The Escalade caromed off the car and struck a utility pole. The SUV still had enough force after striking the car to crack the thick utility pole.

The driver and two children in the car were all taken to Covenant Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the Escalade and the four passengers in his vehicle were also hospitalized.

Saginaw law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the crash and charges are pending. They have not yet identified the other driver whom the Escalade was reported to have been racing.

No one ever expects to be involved in a serious car accident. Even when, as in this case, the victims are expected to recover from their injuries, an accident can throw a huge monkey wrench into a family's life. Hospital bills and expenses related to ongoing care and rehabilitation can cause stress and hardship. It is important that when an accident is caused by the recklessness or negligence of another driver, victims explore all of their options for recovery in a timely manner.
