Police seek driver in fatal hit-and-run crash

A Michigan couple was killed after their car was rear-ended by a truck on Saturday morning. The driver of the truck did not stop after the fatal accident on US Highway 10. Police are still trying to locate the driver of the charcoal grey Chevrolet Silverado.

The accident occurred just after 12:30 am. The couple, a 67-year-old woman and 69-year-old-man were driving west in their Ford station wagon. Their car was struck from behind by the pickup truck which was apparently driving at an extremely high rate of speed.

The force of the collision from the truck forced the car off the road and into the median. Both the driver and passenger in the car were ejected from their vehicle. They were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Witnesses report that the pickup truck slowed down briefly but then sped off down Highway 10. Police say that the truck had a topper over the bed and will have extensive front end damage from the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as police search for the truck and its driver.

It is a devastating tragedy to lose a loved one in a car accident. For the family of the victims of this crash that tragedy may be magnified by the knowledge that the person who was apparently responsible for the crash has not been identified and at the time of the crash did not even stop to check on the victims of the accident. Hopefully the investigation will have a swift conclusion and provide some comfort for the family.
