Two hospitalized after car crashes into Pinckney storefront

The Best Entertainment store in downtown Pinckney was seriously damaged when a 2011 Ford Focus crashed into the building front in the early morning hours of August 19. Both passenger and driver were injured in the car accident and sent to the hospital.

The 18 year-old driver was headed northbound on South Dexter Street, also known as Dexter-Pinckney Road. She failed to stop at the intersection for Main Street. Her vehicle then continued northbound, but drifted toward the east, where she struck an embankment.

The embankment launched the Ford Focus into the air, where it traveled a considerable distance before crashing into the building. Best Entertainment, a video rental store and tanning salon, sustained damage to its exterior in the crash. The store's inventory was not damaged, but the wall itself was significantly dented. Windows were also broken and rental videos were knocked off the walls.

Livingston County EMS arrived on scene and transported the driver and her 19-year-old male passenger to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. As of noon Thursday, the girl was reported as in good condition. The young man was not listed as a patient.

Police are still investigating the cause of the car accident. Speed and alcohol may have been determining factors in the crash, but the cause has not yet been determined. The store owner is happy that the two youths survived the accident, and was less concerned about damage to the store.
