Victim of tragic hit-and-run car accident slowly recovering

The 61-year-old victim of a Kalamazoo County traffic accident is slowly recovering from the injuries she suffered during the collision. Even with physical therapy and ongoing care she may face chronic pain for the rest of her life. The car accident that left her injured occurred over a month ago, and her recovery has been slow but promising.

Ann Arbor woman injured in horse-drawn wagon accident

An employee of Jenny's Farm Market in Dexter was injured Sunday while driving a horse-drawn carriage as part of her job. The 23-year-old Ann Arbor woman involved in the work related accident was driving the wagon over a small incline when the horses picked up speed and she lost control. She then fell forward and, although details are not yet clear, was injured when the horses, the wagon, or both ran over her legs. The wagon, with people still aboard, continued down the incline before striking another wagon.

Traffic fatalities at a historic low in Michigan

As anyone who has lost a loved one in a serious car accident knows, even a single fatal car accident is one too many. But a recent report from Michigan radio says that the number of fatal accident is Michigan over the last few years has been at the lowest level seen since the 1940's.

A fatal accident involving a house fire that killed a 3-year-old Detroit toddler has created a controversy for officials. The blaze was caused by the girl's 4-year-old sister who was playing with matches. While firefighters were initially able to rescue the toddler, she later died due to smoke inhalation.

Weekend Detroit accidents kill two and injure four

In just one of a series of crashes on Detroit roads last weekend, a 31-year-old Detroit resident was killed in a fatal accident on westbound I-94 in Detroit. Police say the man was speeding when his car rolled over and hit a utility pole. A passenger in the car received minor injuries.

Search continues for driver after fatal hit-and-run

A fatal accident on Detroit's west side on Sunday night took the life of a pedestrian as she attempted to cross the street with her groceries. The motorist who struck her did not stop and immediately fled the scene. A witness followed the car to a nearby gas station, local law enforcement authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from that business in an attempt to identify the driver.

Study examines frequency of car accidents under graduated licensing

In 1997, Michigan instituted a graduated driver's license program. Before they can receive an unrestricted license, 16 and 17 year-olds in Michigan are required to drive with a responsible adult for at least 50 hours and complete two driver's education courses. Until they do so, the teens are restricted in the times they can drive and the passengers they are allowed to have in the car.

Michigan DOT say guardrails could have saved life in fatal crash

The Michigan Department of Transportation is scheduled to install cable guardrails along sections of Interstate 94 in November. Unfortunately this was not soon enough to save the life of one driver and avoid serious injury to another when a car went out of control across the median and into the oncoming lane of traffic.

Police say fatal hit-and-run was no accident

Just after 7:30 on Saturday evening, a 66-year-old man was killed when he was struck while on foot by a full sized pickup truck. Law enforcement officials in Flint, where the incident took place, have asserted that this was not an accidental hit-and-run, but that the driver of the pickup truck intentionally ran the man down.

Driver accused of intoxication, high speed, in fatal crash

A crash reconstruction expert testified that the driver of a pickup truck was traveling nearly 30 miles per hour above the speed limit just prior to colliding with the rear of another car. The fatal accident took the lives of two young men who were in the car that was struck by the allegedly speeding driver.

State Police investigate fatal crash involving off-duty officer

The Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal accident in which an off-duty state police officer struck and killed a 16-year-old and seriously injured a14-year-old. The local county sheriff's deputies assisted in some of the initial evidence gathering at the scene, but the majority of the investigation into the crash will be conducted by the state police. This has raised some eyebrows as people question whether the Michigan State Police can objectively investigate a member of their own department.
