Ann Arbor woman injured in horse-drawn wagon accident

An employee of Jenny's Farm Market in Dexter was injured Sunday while driving a horse-drawn carriage as part of her job. The 23-year-old Ann Arbor woman involved in the work related accident was driving the wagon over a small incline when the horses picked up speed and she lost control. She then fell forward and, although details are not yet clear, was injured when the horses, the wagon, or both ran over her legs. The wagon, with people still aboard, continued down the incline before striking another wagon.

Other than the driver, only one other person was injured in the accident, a man that was treated and released that same day. At the time of the accident, five adults and six children were present on the wagon.

Emergency workers were initially worried about the driver's ability to walk as she was unable to move her legs at the scene of the accident. She was transported via helicopter to the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor. She is still listed in serious condition after undergoing surgery.

As a result of the accident, the wagon rides offered at the farmers' market have been suspended until investigators inspect the rides for possible malfunctions that could result in further injuries. They have not ruled out possible workplace dangers or safety concerns that may have led to the accident. As of today, the farmers' market has not been closed.
