Weekend Detroit accidents kill two and injure four

In just one of a series of crashes on Detroit roads last weekend, a 31-year-old Detroit resident was killed in a fatal accident on westbound I-94 in Detroit. Police say the man was speeding when his car rolled over and hit a utility pole. A passenger in the car received minor injuries.

In another accident, a man and woman were critically injured when their car was hit on I-94 near the I-75 interchange. According to police, the car had run out of gas and stalled in the right center lane of the multi-lane expressway. The car had no lights or warning flashers to alert other motorists when it was suddenly rear-ended by another car. The woman in the car was removed by officers of the Michigan State Police while the man had to be extricated from the wreckage by rescue personnel from an area fire department. Both individuals were hospitalized in critical condition where the man was described as being paralyzed from his injuries. Police did not release their names or ages.

Another two people were killed on Eight Mile Road near Warren when the truck in which they were riding hit a commercial building. A third individual was taken to a local hospital and was reported to be in critical condition. According to police, the accident followed a drag race on Eight Mile Road. Police from Warren said they would reveal details of their investigation at a later time.

The last fatal accident happened when a 68-year-old woman was killed as she was walking across the intersection of Puritan and Hubbell on the west side of Detroit. Police officials are reviewing the intersection camera video in an effort to identify the driver of the car that caused the fatality.
