Michigan car accident hospitalizes three

It seems that almost every car cruising down Michigan highways and interstates are going at least a bit over the speed limit. While a few miles over may not be serious crime, when excess speed results in a collision, it is obviously a problem. Last weekend, a car accident on highway I-94 near Grass Lake, Michigan snared four cars and sent three people to the hospital.

All of the injuries in the crash appeared to be non-life threatening. Two individuals involved were treated at a medical center at the University of Michigan while the other was sent to Allegiance Health to receive medical attention. Everyone involved was wearing their seat belts. Alcohol did not play a role in the wreck, but police believe speed did.

The chain of events was triggered when a red vehicle rear-ended a Ford Escort driven by an 18-year-old woman from Jonesville, Michigan at 7:53 p.m. The car that initiated the contact, believed to be driven by a man, sped off from the scene heading west on I-94.

The Escort was stuck in the middle of the roadway when another car collided with it. The driver of the third vehicle was an 18-year-old man from Michigan Center, Michigan.

The fourth and final vehicle in the crash, driven by a 44-year-old woman from Wisconsin, then collided with the third vehicle. The woman was cited for not maintaining a safe distance between her and other cars.

Police are still investigating the accident and searching for the man behind the wheel of the red vehicle, which prompted the incident. Those with information are encouraged to phone law enforcement.
