83-year-old Metamora resident crash dies

The Sheriff's Department in Lapeer County, Michigan reported a fatal accident involving a woman from Metamora crashing into another vehicle in Attica, Michigan earlier this month.

When driving her 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck headed westbound on Newark Road at approximately 2:30pm, police reported that an 83-year-old woman collided with a 2009 Chevrolet van operated by a male driver at the Lake Pleasant intersection. The intersection does not carry any traffic control devices for traffic traveling on Lake Pleasant road. It is believed the woman slowed down to make a complete stop at a stop sign at this intersection.

Police report that the van was traveling northbound on Lake Pleasant Road when it was broadsided by the pickup truck. The woman's pickup truck came to a rest in a ditch. Rescue arrived immediately on scene. The Sheriff's office commented that the woman died as a direct result of her injuries at 10:20 p.m. after being transported by ambulance to Lapeer Regional Medical Center and was immediately placed into intensive care for her life-threatening injuries.

The male driver operating the van was released from the hospital following treatment for minor injuries.

It is not believed by the police that alcohol or speeds were contributing factors in this fatal car accident. According to police, it appeared as though the woman was not wearing her seatbelt. No comment was made by the police officers or the Sheriff's office regarding if the lack of a seatbelt contributed to the woman's fatal injuries.
