Car crashes into mobile home causing injuries and fire

Generally, motor vehicle accidents involve one vehicle striking another, or in the case of a single car accident, that car going off the road to strike a tree, telephone pole or other obstructions near the roadway. But occasionally, when a driver loses control of their car the resulting collision is with something less expected, like someone's home.

This was the case last week when a car crashed into the bedroom of a mobile home. According to the woman who owns the home, the vehicle ended up just a few feet from where the woman's son was sleeping. While the driver of the vehicle initially fled the scene before authorities arrived, a female passenger was injured and stuck in the car as it began to catch fire. She was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are described as critical but not life threatening.

After the crash the home and car caught fire, causing significant damage to the home. The force of the impact was so strong that it knocked the home off its foundation. The fire also spread to a neighboring home.

A neighbor came to the rescue of the driver and the passenger but after he freed the driver, the driver fled before helping extricate his passenger. Police later apprehended the driver and while the investigation remains ongoing, an initial report indicates that both drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
