Police identify victim in fatal Michigan crash

Police in Galesburg, Michigan identified an elderly man who was killed after being thrown from his car following a recent two-car collision. Authorities released the 78-year-old Kalamazoo man's identity a day after the fatal accident, which also injured several others.

The man was riding in a vehicle being driven by a 75-year-old woman heading east on Michigan Avenue. The woman approached an intersection with Mercury Drive and reports claim that she did not completely stop as instructed. As the car entered the intersection, a minivan carrying a family from Climax, Michigan slammed into the vehicle. The man was ejected from the car upon impact.

First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident while the driver was brought to a nearby hospital where she was listed in critical condition. A 10-year-old girl was also riding with the elderly couple. Police did not release the girl's identity, but confirmed that she, too, was brought to a medical facility. The extent of her injuries did not appear life-threatening, authorities said.

There were three occupants in the minivan that was struck by the other car. All three people in the minivan a 44-year-old man and woman and a 20-year-old male, were injured in the crash as well, but their injuries were reported to be substantially less serious. The three occupants of the minivan were treated at a hospital and later cleared to leave.
