Michigan couple safe after harrowing cruise ship accident

Boating accidents are not all that unusual in the water-filled lands of Michigan, but one Michigan couple was part of a boating accident of more epic proportions. A physician and his wife decided to go on an Italian cruise, one that, unbeknown to them, was fated for disaster.

While eating dinner on the cruise ship, shortly after it left the coast of Italy, the couple felt a sharp jolt, the food being thrown into their laps before the lights of the ship went out. Instructions shouted in Italian were no help to the Michigan couple who eventually found their way to a lifeboat and safety on the shores.

The Michigan couple was lucky, a number of passengers perished in the sinking of the cruise ship and others are still missing. The captain of the cruise ship may be facing manslaughter charges as the sinking was a result of the captain deviating from the plotted course and then abandoning the ship. Family members on the other side of the world, including the couple's children, had to wait, holding their breath, to find out that their parents were safe.

The harrowing journey of this couple shows that the waters can be dangerous places. Ill experienced captains of water vessels, or those who try to chart their own course, can be a big danger. While the Michigan couple was lucky to be alive and escape serious injury, others were not so lucky. This shows how important water safety and thorough background checks are to the safety of those who wish to enjoy the water.
