Michigan semi crash causes serious injuries

Anyone who regularly reads this blog or even simply follows the local news is likely aware of the substantial potential for serious injuries or death when a semi tractor-trailer, or other large commercial truck is involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle. The obvious size and weight difference between passenger vehicles and heavy commercial trucks means that the passenger vehicle suffers serious damage in a truck accident, putting all the occupants at risk.

An accident in Ann Arbor earlier this week, demonstrated just how much damage can be caused by a collision with a big rig truck. The driver of the passenger vehicle in this case, survived the crash but was seriously injured and has been hospitalized after the accident.

When the car and the semi truck collided on U.S. 23, both vehicles were knocked off the road and overturned. The car was so badly crushed in the impact that rescue crews were required to use the Jaws of Life in order to cut away the roof of the car and extricate the woman who was driving.

As you may know semi truck drivers and trucking companies are subject to an array of state and federal regulations controlling who may drive these types of trucks, as well as how they are driven and maintained. These regulations are important because any failure to properly maintain or operate one of these large trucks can have such catastrophic results. If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in a Michigan semi accident it is important to discuss your situation with a Michigan attorney who understands the unique issues and regulations involved in these types of accidents.
