When a vehicle is involved in a collision there are unfortunately, many ways in which the occupants can sustain serious injuries. When a vehicle is hit from the side the driver or passenger may have only the door between themselves and the oncoming vehicle. In a head-on collision, the speed and force of both vehicles' forward momentum combines to increase the force if the impact. When a car is struck from the rear the occupants head can be whipped back violently resulting in head and neck injuries.
In some car accidents, the force of the impact can knock a car right off its wheels. In a rollover accident any number of injuries can occur. Even if the passenger cabin of the car remains structurally sound, broken bones and internal injuries are not uncommon as the occupants are sent somersaulting along with their overturning vehicle.
An accident in Brighton, Michigan yesterday sent to people to the hospital for treatment of their injuries after both cars involved in the crash rolled over. According to law enforcement officials a 22-year-old man was driving eastbound when he prepared to make a left turn. A pickup truck coming from the other direction apparently failed to stop at a red light and struck the 22-year-old's car. Both vehicles were knocked off their wheels by the force of the collision.
When rescue crews arrived on the scene they needed to extricate the 22-year-old from his vehicle, though they report they were able to do so relatively quickly. Both drivers were taken to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
