Woman dies in crash with school bus

A 58-year-old female motorist lost her life in a fatal accident recently when the van she was driving collided with a school bus in Springfield Township, Michigan. The crash occurred at approximately 7:33 a.m. The woman died at the scene of the accident. While there were 26 Waterford Kettering High School students on the bus, none of them suffered more than minor bruises and bumps.

The students were traveling on their way to the Technical Campus Northwest of the Oakland Schools when the accident took place at Big Lake Road and Dixie Highway. At the time, the school bus was going north and started to turn left onto Big Lake Road, leaving Dixie Highway behind. The woman's minivan, which was then traveling south, hit it.

The county sheriff's office stated that its investigation into the crash and what caused it is ongoing, and would not, at this point, give any indication of which motorist caused the accident. The bus driver, a 43-year-old female resident of Waterford, suffered some minor injuries and was transported to a medical clinic to be examined and treated.

Students were examined at their school a half-mile away, which they walked to following the accident. Following that, one girl claiming she was suffering a persistent headache was taken to an area hospital by emergency responders. The school's acting principal announced that two counselors were assigned to work with the students to assist them with coping with the aftermath of the accident, but that so far, students appeared to be "handling it really well." He expressed pride in the students' mature reactions to the unexpected tragedy.
