Woman killed in drunk driving accident

A woman died as a result of a head injury she sustained in a fatal drunk driving accident. A man and two women were at a racetrack barn with horses in the early morning hours of April 11, 2011. According to sources, the man and both women had been drinking. The two women decided to go for a horseback ride. About a half-hour after the women left, the man decided to check up on them.

At about 5 a.m., the man got into his pickup truck and set out to look for the women. The man hit the horse with his pickup truck, causing one of the women to be thrown from it, where she struck her head and suffered the injury that killed her. The man, who was allegedly driving under the influence, pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. The man could be sentenced up to 14 years in prison for the incident.

The second woman suffered a broken leg and other unnamed injuries. The horse had a gash in its hindquarter, but survived the accident. The man who pleaded guilty to the charges was a trainer at the racetrack. He also drove pacing and trotting race horses. The woman who was killed worked at the stables with her father, who is a trainer. The woman left behind a young daughter.

When the man was tested for his blood alcohol level a short time after the accident, it was found to be .147. The state limit is .08. The man was also previously convicted of impaired driving in a previous incident in 2005.
