Ann Arbor woman struck while on foot

A late-night stroll proved to be hazardous for one woman in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The 24-year-old woman was out walking along Hill Street one night when a vehicle unsuspectingly struck her just as she crossed Packard Street.

This could potentially be a drunk driving accident as police speculated that the man behind the wheel of the Chevrolet was operating under the influence of alcohol. He was heading southeast on Packard when he struck the woman.

The woman was brought to the University of Michigan Hospital to be treated for her injuries. Media reports did not provide an update on her current condition, but only stated that she remained there.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Ann Arbor man behind the wheel of the Chevrolet was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated. Even though he was arrested, police stressed that it did not necessarily mean he was guilty of the offense. Therefore, the authorities did not release the man's name.

Police continue to investigate the incident.

Drivers often spur pedestrian accidents when they don't pay attention or yield to those folks on foot. Yielding to pedestrians can prove even more challenging when operating under the influence of alcohol. Unfortunately, these accidents can easily levy out catastrophic injury or death.

If found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol, the man will discover the criminal repercussions and civil liability tied with such offenses.
