Investigation continues in Hudson fatal motor vehicle accident

Two vehicles collided in Hudson, Michigan, last week near West Main and Tiffin Streets. The accident occurred at about 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27. Hudson police officers, Lenawee County Sheriff deputies and the Lenawee County Road Commission weighmaster responded to the accident where they found that a Kia, driven by a 60-year-old man, had run into the back of a Chevy truck driven by a 48-year old man.

The driver of the Kia was killed in the fatal motor vehicle accident and declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet Kodiak box truck was taken to ProMedica Bixby Hospital in Adrian, Michigan, where he was treated for injuries he sustained in the accident. Doctors said his injuries were not life-threatening.

The Lenawee County Sherriff's Department declared in its report that speed was probably a factor in the incident. In addition, both drivers were wearing seat belts and alcohol had already been ruled out as a factor as a cause of the accident.

The inability to stop or react to a quick stop, resulting in a rear-end collision is quite common. In this instance, it may be possible that the driver of the Kia fell asleep at the wheel, suffered a medical emergency or even perhaps had faulty brakes. In addition, the commercial truck driver may have been driving negligently and may be partially to blame for the incident. The sheriff's report did not indicate if road conditions may have contributed to the fatal car accident.

While the victim in this instance paid the highest price for any possible reckless or careless driving, his family may want to investigate the possibility of additional extenuating circumstances that may have contributed to the tragic accident.
