Niles community rallies for family who lost 2 girls in car crash

When someone loses a loved one suddenly in a car accident, the emotional anguish must be incomprehensible. In addition to this, families are often burdened with very real financial problems as a result of the loss. Funeral and burial costs, emergency medical expenses incurred before death, and sometimes sustaining a lost a source of income tends to put families in a very tight spot during what is already a terribly difficult time.

When grieving the loss of a loved one, the last thing someone should have to do is stay awake at night due to anxiety over mounting bills. The community of Niles, Michigan, recently came together to offer its support to one area family that is finding itself in this situation. The family lost two girls just last week in a terrible car accident, and another girl remains hospitalized.

The accident took place last Tuesday when a 19-year-old babysitter reportedly drove through a stop sign while the three sisters--ages 9, 6 and 4--were in the car. The 9-year-old and 6-year-old did not survive, and the youngest girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The babysitter was reportedly also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

In order to help this family deal with the financial impacts of this tragedy, a fundraiser took place at an area restaurant this week. The restaurant donated a portion of its profits to the family, and the servers also donated a portion of their tips.

At the end of the day, more than $2,000 was raised. While this will help, and additional fundraisers have been scheduled as well, one imagines that this family will need much more.

When heartbreaking events like this happen, it is important for communities to do what they can to support the survivors and Niles appears to be a good example of this. Families of car accident victims may also have options under state and federal law to receive financial compensation
