Oakland County exec says recovery after car accident is going well

Last month, we discussed a car accident that took place in Michigan and left the Oakland County Executive injured and in the hospital. It has now been reported by Michigan Radio that the county executive has been admitted into a rehabilitative facility where he is recovering from his injuries.

The 73-year-old official was injured Aug. 10 when a Volkswagen Passat reportedly turned in front of his Chrysler 300. Two others in the Chrysler were also injured in the car accident.

The official, who sustained numerous broken bones in the accident--including a hip, leg, ankle, ribs and both wrists--has just begun his second week at the rehab facility.

No date has reportedly been set for his discharge, but he is continuing to meet with his staff daily as they handle the day-to-day operations of his office.

Getting into a car accident can cause not only painful and expensive injuries, but also lost wages due to time away from work while recuperating from these injuries.

In cases where the car accident was caused by another driver's negligence, it is sometimes possible to obtain compensation to mitigate the financial costs and other losses associated with any injuries.

The driver of the Passat is facing three misdemeanor charges related to turning in front of the official's vehicle that night. These charges are separate from any civil claims that any of the victims may choose to file in order to seek compensation for their injuries.

It is important that those who are injured in car accidents educate themselves about their legal options and rights.
