2 Michigan residents seriously injured in semi truck crash

Whenever a motor vehicle accident involves a semi truck, the results are likely to be catastrophic. This is why it is vital that not only are truck drivers well-trained, but also that truck companies comply with regulations and maintain their vehicles to ensure they are as safe as possible.

Last week, two residents of the Saginaw, Michigan, area suffered serious injuries when their vehicle was struck by a semi truck-trailer. The truck accident took place in Tuscola County Feb. 12 when a 48-year-old woman was driving a Chevy Cobalt east on Fairgrove Road. She reportedly signaled to make a left turn, and as she turned the vehicle it was struck from behind by a semi truck.

The Cobalt was pushed into a guardrail as a result of the collision, before coming to rest on the shoulder of the road. The semi also hit a guardrail and then jackknifed before ending up in a ditch.

The driver of the Cobalt and her 20-year-old passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi truck-trailer sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene of the truck accident.

According to the Michigan State Police, the semi truck was issued a citation for neglecting to stop.

It is not clear whether he will face additional charges. In addition to criminal charges or traffic citations, truck drivers and truck companies often face civil lawsuits after car accidents like these. Victims of such accidents often seek to recover compensation for their injuries by filing a civil action. It is quite complicated to file such a lawsuit against a commercial vehicle company or a commercial vehicle driver, however, so it is wise to seek legal guidance.
