Icy roads lead to 15-car pileup near Rockford, Michigan

It is very important for Michigan residents to adapt their driving to the varying weather conditions. While it sounds like common sense, it is something that often bears reminding. Many people continue to drive the posted speed limits despite rain, snow, fog and other conditions, and this leads to car accidents and injuries far too often.

Today, a 15-car accident took place near Rockford, Michigan, reportedly due to very icy roads. Apparently, the accident began at about 7 a.m. when three cars crashed. Oncoming vehicles were not able to avoid the accident, and ultimately a pileup of 15 cars took place at 10 Mile Road Northeast and Division Avenue.

Luckily, there were no injuries reported. Some of the cars involved were damaged.

Few additional details about this crash were reported in a news report. However, a member of the Algoma Township Fire Department, which responded to the crash, told the public that it is necessary to be very careful when the roads are icy. Slowing down is very important, he said.

Often, when people drive too fast on icy roads the results are tragic. Of course, it can be almost impossible to avoid an accident in some conditions, but by slowing down some accidents are preventable or when they do occur, they may be less severe.

Drivers who fail to alter their driving with respect to road conditions and cause accidents may be held accountable for any injuries. It is possible to seek compensation from such drivers for medical costs, property damage, lost wages, pain and suffering and more.
