In Troy, police seek drivers who fled fatal car accident scene

A fatal car accident took place Monday in Troy, Michigan, and police are looking for two drivers who may have had a role in that accident and reportedly fled the scene, according to a news report.

Police are looking for the drivers of a gold Chevrolet Malibu and a silver SUV that were involved in a minor car accident just before the larger fatal accident. The Malibu reportedly exited a private driveway onto Rochester Road, crashing into the SUV Monday afternoon. A southbound Toyota Scion then swerved to avoid that accident scene and ended up in oncoming northbound traffic. A four-car accident ensued and the driver of the Toyota, a 44-year old Macomb Township man, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

One of the other drivers involved in the second crash was also taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries. No other injuries were reported in a news report.

The drivers of the initial accident reportedly left the scene without talking to police.

In the aftermath of a fatal car accident or any car accident, it is important that police are able to interview any involved parties and witnesses. This helps them piece together information and determine who, if anyone, should be held criminally accountable.

Families, too, can use this information to seek civil damages. In many cases, those who cause car accidents can be held liable for medical or funeral expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.

Troy police have requested that anyone with information about this series of car accidents contacts them.
