5 injured in 4-car crash in Hartland

Five people were injured in a four-car crash in Hartland, Michigan, Monday, according to the Hartland Patch. Four of the adult car accident victims were transported to a hospital from the accident scene. Another injured person was going to seek his own treatment. The extent of the injuries was not reported in the news story.

The accident reportedly took place when a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am stopped in an eastbound lane on M-59 waiting to turn left. A 2009 Ford Taurus then struck the stopped Grand Am. The driver of the Grand Am lost control of his vehicle at that point, and he ended up in the westbound lanes of M-59 where he collided with a 2007 Chevrolet, and then a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup.

The driver of the Pontiac Grand Am and his three passengers were those who were transported to an area hospital.

The Michigan State Police noted in their report that the driver of the Ford Taurus failed to stop his vehicle when approaching the Grand Am.

Multi-vehicle car accidents and chain-reaction crashes, however, sometimes involve multiple levels of responsibility. We do not know enough about this particular car accident to suggest who may be at fault, but in some chain-reaction car accidents the answer is not as obvious as it initially seems. For example, it might often be true that multiple drivers contributed to the cause of individual accidents influenced by a chain reaction.

After any car accident, victims may benefit from seeking legal counsel to learn whether it is possible to obtain compensation for their injuries. When car accidents are caused by negligence, it may be possible to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and the other related costs.
