Speeding caused fatal motorcycle accident in Blue Lake Township

We talk a lot about drunk driving, distracted driving and fatigued driving in this Detroit Motor Vehicle Accidents Law Blog. This is because, tragically, a lot of very serious accidents are caused by those driving behaviors here in Michigan. Accidents are often also caused by something that may be a far more routine bad habit for a number of us--speeding. Just driving slightly above the speed limit can significantly increase one's chances of being injured in a car accident or injuring someone else.

A fatal accident took place this week in Blue Lake Township when a car collided with a speeding motorcycle. According to the Michigan State Police, a motorcycle was traveling west at a high rate of speed on White Lake Drive at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when an eastbound car turned right in front of it. Two people were on the motorcycle and both were thrown upon impact.

A man on the motorcycle was pronounced dead after the accident and the woman that was driving the motorcycle was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The police have not reported the speed that the motorcycle may have been going before the crash, but they did say that they believe speed was a significant factor in the accident.

There are going to be many more motorcycles out on the roads now that the weather is nicer, and it is important that drivers of cars look out for them and that motorcyclists also obey the laws of the road. Motorcycle collisions often result in catastrophic injuries and it is important that we all work to prevent such accidents by driving safe.
