Distracted driver injures two in Michigan car accident

By now, most Michigan drivers are all-too-familiar with the dangers that can arise from distracted driving. The state has taken steps to reduce the number of accidents caused by drivers who take their eyes off of the road. Texting while driving is banned on Michigan roadways, which has helped to improve safety for all motorists. A recent car accident that occurred in Clifton Township shows that other types of distractions may still be a problem within the state.

The accident occurred when a vehicle collided with a lawnmower that had a tractor attached. Two individuals standing near the tractor were injured when the vehicle struck the tractor on the side of the road, eventually ending up on the lawn. One of those injured appeared to have suffered a broken leg.

The driver of the vehicle was asked what happened at the scene, and the motorist stated to witnesses that she took her eyes off of the road for a moment to look at a screen in the vehicle's dashboard. Police are still investigating the accident.

In-dash systems are becoming more standard in newer vehicles. Officials are concerned that some motorists may think that these features are safer than using a cellphone while driving, but there are still risks involved. Some have called on auto manufacturers to introduce procedures that make these systems inaccessible to those who try to use them when driving.

Individuals injured in car accidents may wish to speak to a personal injury attorney about the potential compensation that may be available to them. This can help them pay for the medical bills that result due to the negligence of other drivers. It is important that those injured are aware of the extent of their injuries before they resolve their claims, or they could be forced to pay for the additional treatment that they receive.
