Good Samaritan killed in Kentwood, Michigan, accident

A tragic car accident occurred last week in Kentwood, Michigan. According to a news report published by the Detroit Free Press, a 50-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle after she pulled over to offer assistance at the scene of a car accident. She was apparently killed by one of the cars that was involved in that initial accident scene.

The woman, a Grand Rapids resident, reportedly approached a pickup truck on Thursday afternoon and when she grabbed the door handle on the driver's side, the driver accelerated and ran over the woman.

She was pronounced dead there at the scene of the collision.

This accident appears to still be under investigation. It remains unclear exactly how this happened and whether any criminal charges will be filed in this case.

When someone is injured or killed in an auto accident that was essentially a chain reaction of another accident, the resulting investigation is quite complex and there may have been many contributing factors that caused the injuries or death. It is important to obtain an accurate picture of both or all related collisions so that authorities can proceed with any applicable criminal charges and the victim or his or her loved ones can pursue civil action.

When someone is killed in a car accident as the result of someone else's negligence, it may be possible for his or her loved ones to hold the negligent party accountable with a wrongful death action. Of course, it is not known whether that type of action would be appropriate in this particular case.
