Diesel spills on I-75 after Michigan semi-truck accident

Diesel fuel spilled onto northbound Interstate 75 today as the result of a car vs. semi tractor-trailer crash in the Birch Run Township area. Luckily, no additional accidents or fires started as a result of the diesel fuel spill.

The driver and the passenger of the car were both transported to a hospital following the collision, and the extent of their injuries has not been reported. The driver of the semi truck did not sustain serious injuries.

According to an MLive.com news report, the motor vehicle accident took place this morning just after 6:30. A northbound Grand Prix crashed into the semi tractor trailer, which was in the far righthand lane at the time. The Grand Prix struck the truck's fuel tank, causing the spill.

Traffic was reduced to one lane until about 8:15 a.m. as crews cleaned up the scene.

The exact cause of this accident is not yet clear.

Accidents involving semi-trucks often involve very complicated investigations. When a truck or truck driver contributes to an accident, it is necessary to determine whether the driver, his or her employer, or another party needs to be held accountable. Sometimes there is another party who loaded the truck, another who owns the truck and another who maintains it--and in some cases, all of these elements need to be reviewed. There are multiple levels of responsibility involved in the trucking industry, so there is much to be studied in order to obtain compensation for victims in the aftermath of a truck accident that involved negligence.

Of course, as we mentioned, the cause of this particular truck accident has not been reported and it is not clear who may be responsible.
