In many Michigan cities, walking is a popular form of recreation and transportation during the warmer months. Walking not only saves money, it is a great way to reduce stress and stay in shape. However, walking near crowded roadways can be very dangerous. When pedestrians and automobiles are in close proximity, pedestrian accidents are bound to happen.

Recently, two pedestrians were seriously injured in an accident near Holland. The accident happened during the evening along Michigan Avenue near the intersection with 24th Street. According to reports, a sedan was headed north on Michigan Avenue approaching 24th Street when a pickup truck traveling east on 24th turned onto Michigan Avenue and into the path of the sedan.

Reports said the driver of the sedan swerved to avoid a collision with the pickup truck, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. Reportedly, the sedan struck two pedestrians who were on the sidewalk. Authorities said both pedestrians suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the sedan was also injured and taken to a hospital. Police said they are currently searching for the driver of the pickup truck, who has not yet been identified.

Since pedestrians are exposed and minimally protected, any accident involving pedestrians is more likely to result in serious injury or death. Those in Michigan who have suffered injury or loss due to negligence in pedestrian accidents could benefit by seeking the services of a knowledgeable attorney. A successfully litigated lawsuit could provide victims and families with much-needed compensation to replace lost wages and offset medical expenses.
