Motor Vehicle Accidents Archives

How car technology help prevent car accidents

Many of the vehicles you see on the roads in Michigan are equipped with car accident prevention technology. These cars are much safer than many older model vehicles because they have systems in place to warn motorists of hazards. However, as some drivers become more reliant on new car technology to prevent motor vehicle accidents, they become less defensive about their driving behaviors and make more errors.

The potential saving graces of dash cameras

Driving accidents in Michigan don't always leave tell-tale evidence of exactly what happened and the drivers involved often give conflicting versions of events. The use of dash cameras may be a great source of evidence in automobile crashes without witnesses, or when the facts of who caused the accident are in dispute.

Three ways to build your case when you are hospital-bound

Sustaining an injury can be a serious and life-threatening event. Whether you are recovering from broken bones or severe whiplash, you will likely be dealing with the consequences of these injuries for a while. If they resulted from a motor vehicle collision, accident at work or slip and fall, it is especially imperative that you take the steps necessary to advocate for yourself and your case.

Medical care following a low-impact collision is critical

If you are in a low-impact collision, you may see nothing that looks remotely like a severe injury. You check yourself and you seem to be intact. You may feel fine, if a trifle shaken, and more concerned about the cost of repairing the dent in your back bumper than you are about the cost of any medical treatment you might need.

10 most dangerous intersections in Washtenaw County

The Michigan State Police compiles data from motor vehicle accident reports to determine some of the most dangerous roads and intersections in the state. Authorities hope that providing this information helps drivers be more aware when approaching these locations to prevent accidents and injuries

When should you hire a personal injury attorney?

If you were unfortunate enough to be in a car crash, you might be tempted to pursue an insurance claim on your own. However, you should keep in mind that insurance companies have teams of high-powered lawyers. Are you qualified to go up against these professionals?

Before you buy your teen's first car

While your teen is counting down the days until his or her 16th birthday, you may be checking the budget and planning for that first vehicle. Modeling safe driving behaviors and encouraging your teen to drive safely may be enough to keep him or her from causing a wreck, but you cannot control what other drivers do. That is where the right vehicle makes all the difference.

Pokémon Go: Staying safe while you "catch 'em all"

Pokémon Go will go down in history as one of the biggest trends of 2016. Yet it also comes with risks. The iOS and Android app lets people catch mythical creatures by using their phone's GPS units and cameras to hunt them down in the real world. It's the first time an augmented-reality game has made such a huge international splash, and it's already taking its toll on some users.

Michigan Legislature Considers Speed Limit Increases

Speed limits would increase to 75 mph on rural freeways

Bills going through Michigan's legislature could significantly change speeding limits on some of Michigan's roadways. On February 1, 2016, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved a proposal to raise speed limits on rural freeways to 75 miles per hour. In a February 2 article on Mlive.com titled "75 mph Speed Limit Green-lighted By Michigan House Panel," bill sponsor Bradford Jacobsen (R-Oxford) indicated that the roads where the speed limit would be increased were designed to be safe at speeds of 75 miles per hour.
